This has helped many students the opportunity to continue their education, while allowing them to keep their commitments to their families and employers. While distance learning is not for everyone, it has certainly stood the test of time. What follows is a timeline summary of events related to distance education.
• 1840 - Isaac Pitman start correspondence courses shortcut in the United Kingdom.
• 1858 - University of London external program creates.
• 1883 - New York Chautauqua Institute authorize the award degrees obtained by correspondence.
Was renamed the Faculty of Engineering of the coal mine mining Schools International Correspondence - • 1891.
• 1892 - University of Chicago starts administering the first university courses by correspondence.
• 1906 - Calvert School of Baltimore became the first elementary school in the United States to offer correspondence courses.
• 1916 - Established the National University Continuing Education Association in the United States.
• 1921 - Pennsylvania College classes begin broadcast on the radio.
• 1933 - University of Iowa begins broadcasting courses on television.
• 1950 - The Ford Foundation began providing grants to create and develop educational programs on television.
• 1967 - is created for the public broadcasting company.

• 1974 - California University offers a master's degree by correspondence.
• 1982 - was to establish a network of national university teleconference.

With the advent of the personal computer and the development of the Internet, distance education has evolved to become a very important part of modern education. Most every university in North America offering online courses, while the small-scale industries and formed all around the concept of online education. There are a myriad of online courses for members of the general public. The wonderful thing about online education is that there are no limits, and prospective students all over the world now have access to the same opportunities. Online learning has the potential to make the world a better place. In some ways, this is already happening.
